Prior to getting counseling from Stanford Academy, I had been extremely against the idea of receiving any additional counseling, thinking that counseling would edit out and make my application not stand out from the many other people who also do counseling. I had heard a lot about how some services would write the essays for the students, or guide students into fabricating interests in order to make a story. This perspective that I had regarding counseling, was proven wrong however, when I started counseling at SA.

Through having conversations with David, I was able to talk about my interests, future goals, and opinions regarding schools, and with his guidance, come to realize what areas of interest I wanted to focus on in the future as well. The help that I received from SA was extremely helpful, as I was given personal suggestions that helped guide me, instead of having my ideas interfered with. Especially when it came to writing essays, the revisions I got came with comments and suggestions, and it was emphasized that my own writing voice should not be lost in the essay. I found myself feeling extremely grateful for the great amount of insight that I was given, and how much I learned about essay writing from this process.

Not only that, but I also appreciated the encouragement that I had gotten from David. Being someone who had moved to Korea during the last 3 years of high school, I had a difficult time adjusting and was not very involved in school even though I really wanted to get involved in some issues and even start a club. While I had just thought about these ideas, it was David who helped encourage me to actually go through with it, helping me with organizing my plan of action and in realizing that this was something I could accomplish. This sort of supportive guidance was valuable, and there was not a single time where the support felt counterfeit or interfering. I definitely recommend SA for students who want their essays to reflect the best part of themselves, and stand out to college admissions for it.
